Child and Family Centres

Child and Family Centres provide group care and pre-school education for children up to five years old as well as support to families with children up to eight years old. This is provided through group care, individual 1:1 work and outreach services.

  • They provide a healthy stimulating environment where children are encouraged to achieve their full potential.
  • They work in partnership with parents/carers to provide their children with the best start in life.
  • They enable families to recognise their strengths and develop methods for coping with difficulties.
  • They offer equal opportunities to everyone while respecting and valuing differences.
  • They respond to the needs of the local community in relation to supporting families to access community groups and other work with health and voluntary sector.

  4. Additional support needs
  5. Developmental delay
  6. Challenging behaviour
  7. Communication and language difficulties
  8. Homelessness

  11. Other

  5. Emotional stress
  6. Bonding difficulties

  12. Relationship difficulties
  13. Housing difficulties/homelessness
  14. Financial stress
  15. Lone parent
  16. Other

Priority ratings for admissions

  1. Family situation indicates child protection intervention is required to safeguard child and possibly prevent the child being accommodated
  2. Family requires support to meet their child’s emotional needs and/or physical care
  3. Child requires specialist services to promote their development
  4. Child and family require a period of respite from stress
