Sport grants

The Into Sports Fund makes awards towards the development and promotion of sports groups and sporting events throughout the city.  The main criteria for receiving funding is that the organisation have the following:

  1. a formal constitution
  2. audited accounts
  3. are city based.

Please note however, the fund does NOT cover the following:

  1. capital projects, i.e. building works, refurbishment etc.
  2. individuals
  3. travel, competition or accommodation expenses
  4. purchase of vehicles.

Applications should be made in December for the forthcoming financial year.  These are assessed at the beginning of the year and funds are allocated from April onwards.

All grant applications to the Council are required broadly to contribute to one of the following City Plan objectives:

  1. Making Community planning a reality
  2. Moving towards an inclusive society
  3. Making Edinburgh a safer and healthier place
  4. Securing prosperity and managing growth
  5. Delivering better Education, Training and Lifelong Learning
  6. Development of a quality and sustainable environment.

  1. Local Development Committee Grants represents a significant fund for supporting the modernising of Council activity in local areas.  In particular, the resources available provide an effective mechanism for securing greater community involvement in the Community Planning process.  Within this overall context, there are various opportunities to engage with community groups and local organisations, and to undertake one-off projects that address local needs. Scottish Sports Aid receives council support to help them assist young talented sports people from Edinburgh by assisting them with their training, travel and competition costs.  All enquiries must go through the appropriate Governing Body of Sport.  SSA is located at 76 Constitution Street, Edinburgh EH6 6RP, tel: 0131 555 4584.

  3. Awards For All is a lottery grants programme aimed at local communities.  Awards of £500 - £5000 are made towards projects costing up to £10,000.   Applicants are expected to contribute something in cash and/or in kind towards the costs of their project.  For further information contact: Sport Scotland or hotline on 0845 600 2040.
