Countryside Ranger Service

The Countryside Ranger Service manages Edinburgh’s Natural Heritage Parks and is responsible for the conservation of the city's wildlife and natural resources.  They ensure the public have a safe, enjoyable visit to countryside areas while respecting both other users and the wildlife.

The countryside rangers achieve this in a number of ways.

  • By conservation management and survey work
  • Providing interpretation through guided walks, talks, events and signage.
  • Provide environmental education throughout the city
  • Creating opportunities for volunteers to participate in conservation work.
  • We have two visitor centres, one at the Hermitage of Braid and the other at Cammo Estate
  • Work with local community groups
