Capital Collections is an exciting website giving online access to some of the amazing and unique prints including photographs, engravings and drawings held by Edinburgh City Libraries.

Our website includes some of the 100,000 images in our collection and is a unique record of Edinburgh past and present, including the city’s architecture, people and places.

This vibrant and historic city is brought to life by the collection and we’re constantly updating and adding to the website.

Edinburgh City Libraries has a world class collection of early photography, including works by Thomas Keith, DO Hill & R Adamson and Archibald Burns.

Capital Collections is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in the history, architecture, culture and people of Edinburgh.

And Capital Collections isn’t just about the past. We’ll also be including contemporary photographs of the city, recording more recent changes and developments in the city.

Capital Collections will also show images from our Scottish and Art collections.
