Bookstart

Babies love books!

Bookstart Edinburgh, launched in February 2000, puts books into the hands of babies and their families throughout the city. Parents receive a free book bag containing 2 books, nursery rhymes and an invitation to join the library at their baby’s 4 month immunisation. A further Bookstart pack is given to parents at their child’s 12-15 month immunisation.

Over 49,000 book bags have been given to families throughout Edinburgh by their Health Visitor, and hundreds of babies have joined their local library.

In 2007 Bookstart Edinburgh introduced a third pack, the Bookstart Treasure Chest, which is gifted to three year olds in nurseries and child & family centres. This pack is gifted in different areas of the city at different times during the year.
