Ethnic Library Service

Libraries welcome black, minority ethnic and other diverse communities in Edinburgh - including asylum seekers and refugees. McDonald Road Library is the Centre of Excellence for providing library resources in a wide range of community languages. These resources are also available from the Central Library, selected community libraries and mobile libraries.

Services

  • books in community languages including Urdu, Chinese, Arabic and Polish
  • audio visual materials
  • newspapers and magazines
  • dual language picture books for under fives
  • community language software for word processing
  • free internet access to information and learning sites.

Events

  • regular events and author visits for children and adults
  • reading groups
  • regular courses and taster sessions for internet, e-mail and word-processing
  • the Ethnic Library Service provides a forum for public consultation on the development of library services for the minority ethnic communities.
