Disability and Finding a Home

It is not always easy to secure the type of house that you need to suit your health needs - whether you live in the social rented sector (Council or Housing Association), private rented sector (private landlords) or if you are an Owner Occupier.

Buying a property allows you some control over the features your next home will have. Ownership Options may be able to help with this.

Definition of Disability

For the purposes of this section, disability will consider any health issue (physical or mental health problems) that makes it difficult for someone to remain in their current home.

Help and Assistance with your Housing Options

The City of Edinburgh Council employs a number of Housing Officers who can provide you with full information and advice about your housing options. You can ask for a Housing Options interview by contacting your neighbourhood office, the Housing Options Team or if you have health problems and have applied through the EdIndex system for housing, you may be visited by a Housing Officer from the Council's Assessment and Advice Service who can discuss your housing options with you.
