West Edinburgh Strategic Design Framework

At its meeting of 2 October 2008 the planning committee approved for consultation purposes a draft West Edinburgh Strategic Design Framework (WESDF). The purpose of the framework is to help to deliver the vision set out in the West Edinburgh Planning Framework 2008, which has the status of a Scottish Planning Policy document (see below link). It is being prepared within the context of the Edinburgh and the Lothians Structure Plan and in conjunction with an Alteration to the Rural West Edinburgh Local Plan.

The draft WESDF sets out a long term vision for West Edinburgh and identifies strategic design principles which will apply across the area relating to landscaping, built environment, movement and infrastructure. It also provides more site-specific guidance for 5 sub-areas; International Business Gateway, Scotland’s National Showground, Edinburgh Airport, Gogar Hub and Newbridge and Ratho Station Hub.

The Participation Statement (see link) sets out details of forthcoming consultation events for the West Edinburgh Strategic Design Framework and also an Alteration to the Rural West Edinburgh Local Plan (RWELP). The draft RWELP Alteration was approved by the Planning Committee on 29 October.

The draft RWELP Alteration document and Interim Environmental Reports (Strategic Environmental Assessments) for the Alteration and Strategic Design Framework will be available for consultation purposes on the website from 24 November 2008.

The draft West Edinburgh Strategic Design Framework is subject to strategic environmental assessment and an Interim Environmental Report has been prepared for consultation purposes
