Edinburgh Waterfront Promenade Design Code – Consultation Draft
The Edinburgh Waterfront Promenade will form a continuous walkway/cycleway extending for almost 17km from Joppa in the east to Cramond in the west.
The Promenade will link communities along the coast with each other and with adjoining communities providing a safe and attractive corridor for pedestrians and cyclists. The Promenade will be much more than simply a footpath and cycleway, as along the route a number of nodes will be developed that will act as destination points offering opportunities for recreation and entertainment facilities whilst respecting the coastline.
Investing in this key piece of high quality infrastructure will enable the Council and its partners to support the continued economic growth of the Waterfront; improving access to amenities and services; and enhancing the environment of this coastal location.
A Edinburgh Waterfront Promenade Design Code has now been produced to support the future development of the Promenade.
Draft Edinburgh Waterfront Promenade Design Code - consultation
A public consultation on the Design Code ran for 8 weeks until Friday 18th July 2008 during which we welcomed comments on the content of the Design Code and the proposed destination nodes and the section(s). Views on the proposed phasing plan were also welcomed as well as views on the following:
What surface treatments are most appropriate?
Are the node(s) in the right locations?
What should be in the node(s)?
What street furniture is needed?
What should the signage look like?
Are the transport connections adequate?
And, What other issues should we be aware of?
A summary of all the consultation responses was presented to the Planning Committee on the 2nd October 2008.
The report of the consultation can be downloaded below (pdf link)
