Edinburgh Standards for Streets

The City of Edinburgh Council in setting out the Edinburgh Standards for Streets is proposing a mechanism for achieving improvement and coherence in the public realm.

The Standards are based on a review of the Edinburgh Streetscape Manual and  they illustrate the extent to which guidance can be given by good design in the context of existing legislation and the need to balance Streetscape issues with transport safety matters.

Part One sets out the Principles for Streets, part two outlines detailed design guidance for specific activities undertaken in the street and part three, the delivery mechanisms to achieving this.

The finalised version of the Edinburgh Standards for Streets was approved at the 9 November 2006 Planning Committee and can be downloaded below.
