Health promotion and improvement

The Health Improvement team, as part of Environmental Health and Trading Standards organises various health improvement projects.

eatsafeEatSafe Award - This certificate is issued to food outlets where the food has been prepared in conditions that are above those required by current legislation.

healthy living awardHealthyliving Award - This is a national award scheme for the food service sector in Scotland. It rewards caterers who make it easier for their customers to eat healthily.

 

rnibRNIB - We are currently working in partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Scotland, to increase awareness of food hygiene among older visually impaired people in Edinburgh. Food Safety Kits for the visually impaired have been developed. This project was funded by the Food Standards Agency Scotland for 2008/9 and has been successful in securing further funding from the FSA to continue the project into 2009/10.

mission possibleMission:Possible! is a Food Standards Agency funded project that was originally developed by Wyre Borough Council with the aid of a grant from the Food Standards Agency. This fun-packed learning tool is targeted at children aged eight to ten and seeks to help them achieve a basic knowledge of the principles of food safety through a series of fun exercises and practical tasks in a school setting.

food4lifeFOOD4LIFE - The aim of this project is to reduce the incidence of food poisoning in young adults and provide them with advice on healthy eating. The FOOD4LIFE project was initially funded by the Food Standards Agency Scotland.

orangesFood Safety Week - The annual national food safety week supported by the Food Standards Agency. Officers from the department are involved in promotional activites based on the theme which is different every year.

Stop Slips and Trips!

The number of major injuries caused by slips and trips at work was over 10,000 in the UK last year, which accounted for a third of all reported injuries.  The food industry has a particularly high incidence of reportable slips and trips accidents. Find out more
