Leith Links Seaward Extension Design Study

On the 28 February 2008 the Planning Committee approved for consultation purposes a landscape design study for the Leith Links Seaward Extension. The LLSE is an open space proposal (OSR 7) identified in the finalised Edinburgh City Local Plan (March 2007), the Leith Docks Development Framework (2005) and the Salamander Place Development Brief (April 2007).

The seaward extension proposal is intended to connect Leith Links to the seafront in a green parkland strip. It aims to accommodate the need for playing fields to serve the wider Leith docks area and provide a new long-term boundary to the Leith eastern industrial area as part of a plan-led reconfiguration of land uses. It may take 20-30 years to complete, depending on the overall pace of change in this area.

The design study shows how the LLSE relates to existing and proposed land uses, presents a landscape structure with footpath/cycle links, and an indicative phasing plan. This study is intended to inform more detailed landscape designs to be provided as part of or in association with relevant detailed planning applications. It is not a planning application, or supplementary planning guidance.

Prior to finalisation of the design study, comments received will be presented to the Planning Committee.
