Lower Granton Road - Public ConsultationLOWER GRANTON ROAD REALIGNMENT SCHEME AND FOOTWAY MAINTENANCE WORKS - PUBLIC CONSULTATION We are proposing to realign a short section of Lower Granton Road and improve the layout of its junction with Trinity Crescent and Trinity Road. The new junction layout will incorporate four signalised pedestrian crossings, including a direct link from the Trinity Cycleway to McKelvie Parade, and will increase the efficiency of the junction, reducing existing congestion. Two options have been developed for the new junction layout. Option 1 makes the short section of Lower Granton Road outside Nos 1 to 7 into a cul-de-sac, which incorporates a parking layby and a turning circle. All access to this section would be via Trinity Road. Option 2 maintains access from the short section described above on to the remainder of Lower Granton Road for traffic heading west only. It provides an additional parking layby, instead of the turning circle. This would prevent vehicles from having to perform three-point turns in this section, which may be a particular problem for larger vehicles such as delivery lorries. However, this option may result in this section of road being used by through traffic to avoid waiting at the traffic signals. We will need to introduce new double yellow line parking restrictions at the junction to ensure that the road and/or footways do not become blocked due to inconsiderately parked cars. The proposed yellow lines have been kept to the minimum required and are shown on the enclosed plans. We have incorporated new parking laybys into the design to offset the effect of the double yellow lines. As part of this scheme, it is also proposed to install two new signalised pedestrian crossings elsewhere on Lower Granton Road. We expect that work on this scheme will begin in summer 2009. We also plan to install two vehicle-activated electronic speed limit signs on Lower Granton Road in the near future to reinforce the existing 30mph speed limit on the road. You can view copies of this plan on-line (pdf, 740kb), on request at Leith Library (28-30 Ferry Road), or by appointment at the Council’s City Chambers office in the High Street during normal office hours.
