PermitsThere are various parking permits available to drivers in the city of Edinburgh. A brief summary of each of the permits is provided below. Residents' Parking PermitsResidents' Parking Permits are available to vehicle owners residing within Edinburgh’s Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs). Residents’ parking permits allow parking in both Permit and Shared Use parking bays within the numbered parking zone in which the permit holder resides. Visitors' Parking PermitsVisitors’ parking permits are currently only available to residents in the Extended Controlled Parking Zones (parking zones S1-S4 and N1-N5). Visitors’ parking permits can be purchased in books of 10 and a single visitors’ parking permit will allow 90 minutes of parking in both Permit and Shared Use parking bays within the numbered parking zone in which the permit holder resides. Retailers’ Parking PermitsRetailers' Parking Permits are available to qualifying retail outlets located within Edinburgh’s Peripheral and Extended Controlled Parking Zones who undertake a Class 1’ retail activity as specified in the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) (Scotland) Order 1997. Retailers’ parking permits allow parking in both Permit and Shared Use parking bays within the numbered parking zone in which the retail premises are located. Trades’ Parking PermitsTrades' Parking Permits are available to any qualifying trades businesses (e.g. decorators, plumbers, tilers, kitchen fitters etc) who work within Edinburgh. The business itself need not be located within Edinburgh. Trades’ parking permits allow all day parking in Pay and Display parking bays throughout Edinburgh and also in Permit (excluding residential mews areas) or Shared Use parking bays between the hours of 9.00am and 4.30pm. European Blue Badge SchemeThe European Blue Badge scheme is open to people with disabilities who find it difficult to get around without using a car. With a Blue Badge you may park free of charge in all disabled and public parking spaces and in residents' parking bays with a free 'exempt' permit.
