Green Flag Award winning park 2009

Easter Craiglockhart Hill is one of twelve sites in Edinburgh managed by our Countryside Ranger Service. It is located in the south-west of the city between the peaceful residential areas of Braidburn and Craiglockhart. In April 2005 Easter Craiglockhart Hill was designated a Local Nature Reserve, underlining its importance for nature conservation as well as its great landscape value.

The Friends of Craiglockhart Woods and Nature Trail have been actively involved with the site for many years. They devised and maintain a nature trail round the hill which highlights the varied and interesting habitats which can be found on the site, including semi-natural woodland, unimproved grassland and a carefully managed marsh area on the banks of an ornamental pond.

The Green Flag judges said ‘Very good community involvement both in the planning/decision making and in the management of the site. The site provides a good local resource for the community.’
