Edinburgh in Bloom

We are delighted to report that Edinburgh won a silver-gilt medal in the Britain in Bloom competition.

Following our success in Scotland In Bloom, the city has been preparing to represent Scotland in the large cities category of  the prestigious Britain in Bloom competition. This includes the Royal Botanic Garden, horticultural suppliers, academic institutions, community groups, city landmarks and many others. The judging took place on 23 September 2009. It was held in Torbay and hosted by Gardeners’ World presenter Toby Buckland.

The competition covered three core areas: horticultural achievements, environmental responsibility and community participation. In our case, the judges were most impressed by the Botanic Garden, our community parks and friends' groups.

Edinburgh’s green community is very proud to have represented Scotland at Britain in Bloom for the first time. We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to prepare the city for the bid and to ensure that the capital was at its magical best when the judges came to call.
