Packs are distributed to babies by health visitors, usually at around 4 months at child’s immunisation.

For toddlers aged 13–24 months

Bookstart Plus pack for toddlers

The main focus of the Bookstart pack for toddlers is on building language and listening skills.

These packs are distributed by health visitors, usually at the MMR immunisation at around 12 months.

  • A pack of crayons (Crayola Mini Kids)

  • A 'Numbers are Fun!' bedroom frieze

  • A set of 'Bookplates' - colourfully illustrated stickers for children to place in their books, saying, 'This book belongs to …..’ thus encouraging children to build their own book collection.

  • More Things to do with books! which focuses on early language and listening skills

My Bookstart Treasure Chest

For children aged 3 years

Free Bookstart Treasure Chest pack for three year olds

A pre-assembled treasure chest, it has a wooden effect like a pirate’s chest. It is illustrated with jewellery, coins and necklaces (to appeal to both boys and girls) and has a secret, false bottom compartment for keeping best drawings etc.

The Treasure Chest is given out by nurseries and Child & Family Centres at various times during the year in different neighbourhoods in the city.

The timetable for distribution is as follows:

South Neighbourhood                                May/June

North Neighbourhood                                 August/September

West Neighbourhood                                 November

East & South West Neighbourhoods          February
