The programme was identified as a key element of the Scottish Government’s drive to get more people in Scotland active; a commitment outlined in the National Physical Activity Strategy. The Scottish Government has been developing a range of partnerships and establishing actions to take this work forward under the banner of 'Healthier Scotland'. The programme is being developed in partnership with Scottish Government’s Health Promoting Schools Unit. What is an Active School?Active Schools is a term given to all schools in Scotland that provide pupils with sufficient opportunities to get active to the extent that it makes a positive contribution to their health. An Active School provides and promotes fun and safe physical activities for all children. About Active Schools EdinburghThe Active Schools Edinburgh team consists of 1 manager and 30 Active Schools Co-ordinators, who work across all of Edinburgh's primary & secondary schools, including a number of special schools. All primary and secondary schools in Edinburgh have a qualified Co-ordinator assigned to their school. These Co-ordinators are responsible for working with the schools and other organisations to increase the range of quality opportunities for pupils to become more physically active.
