Community Based Adult Learning offers informal learning in a wide range of subjects from everyday literacy and numeracy, family learning and lipreading, to creative writing, women's groups, local history and computing.
CBAL is organised into five local area teams (East, North, South, South West, West).
SCEWs: The Senior Community Learning and Development Worker for the local area will usually have overall responsibility for literacy and numeracy provision in their area.
CEWs: The local Community Learning and Development Worker normally organise adult literacy and numeracy groups in their area. Some have a background in adult literacy and numeracy and they usually supervise and support part time sessional group tutors.
Venues: Some groups run in dedicated places, such as The Number Shop (South) and Platform (South West), others in community centres, schools, libraries or voluntary sector premises, such as Adult Learning Link (East) and Gorgie City Farm (West).
