The North Neighbourhood sits to the north of Princes Street and covers the communities of Greater Pilton and Greater Leith as well as Trinity, Inverleith, Stockbridge and parts of the New Town. The area has two regeneration areas – Greater Pilton and a smaller area of Leith.

North Edinburgh has a population of 123,000 people with 24,200 of those under the age of 19 years. There are 20 primary schools, 5 secondary schools, 18 nursery schools or classes, 5 child and family centres and 6 community centres and a c ommunity learning and development team offering a range of services to the local community. In addition to these there are a range of social work services available in the area.

The area is set to change quite dramatically over the next 10 years with a major building project which will establish a new waterfront community stretching from Granton along the shore line to Leith. It is anticipated that this could bring an additional 40,000 people into the area.
