Social renting in Edinburgh

To apply for housing with 21 landlords including Edinburgh Council, Housing Associations and Co-operatives (Registered Social Landlords) you need to register with EdIndex, Edinburgh's common housing register.

There are not enough properties for everyone who is registered with EdIndex. If you are not considered in priority need for social housing you will be waiting many years for an allocation. If you want to move soon and into an area of your choice there is advice available to help you find a reputable private landlord from Letwise or the Edinburgh Housing Advice Partnership.

You can get an EdIndex application form

Return your completed application form by

  • handing it in to any neighbourhood office
  • posting it to the EdIndex team at the address on the right. Be sure to put a minimum of 76p postage on the envelope or your application may not be received.

The EdIndex team aims to process applications within 5 working days. Once you are registered you will be sent a letter with your unique EdIndex reference number. You will use this number to put in notes of interest for available housing as advertised every week in EH- Your Key to Choice  (external website hosted by a third party).
