Festive Waste Arrangements

Christmas Tree recycling

This year the Council is providing a Christmas tree recycling service for residents who don’t have brown garden waste bins. Details are being sent to the homes of residents receiving this service. If you don’t have a brown bin, find out about collections in your area.

Recycling collections

There will be no red and blue box collections, or blue bag collections on 25 December and 1 January.

If your collection falls on either of these dates, please continue to collect your materials for recycling and they will be picked up on your next collection day.

If you have extra materials for recycling and cannot wait for your next collection date, there are recycling points across the city, at supermarkets and in tenement areas, or see below for details of the Community Recycling Centres.

Community Recycling Centres

Edinburgh’s four Community Recycling Centres will be open every day between 10am and 4pm, EXCEPT 25 and 26 December 2008 and 1 and 2 January 2009.

These are located at:

• Braehead: Craigs Road
• Craigmillar: Old Dalkeith Road
• Seafield: Fillyside Road
• Sighthill: Bankhead Avenue

Please note that liveried vehicles and commercial waste are accepted at Seafield Community Recycling Centre only.

Street cleaning

There will be no Rapid Response service from 25 December until 28 December (inclusive) and from 1 January until 4 January (inclusive).  

Task Force Street Cleaning will operate in the city centre on 25 and 26 December and 1-3 January.  There will be no service in other areas.

In the event of operational delays, such as bad weather, please leave your bags or bins out and we will collect them as soon as possible.
