St Andrew Square Garden open from 4 April

From 4 April, St Andrew Square Garden is open to the public for the first time in generations. Come enjoy this tranquil haven in the middle of the city centre, and enjoy a coffee at Coffee Republic's first Scottish outlet in the garden’s new glass pavilion.

The City of Edinburgh Council, in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian, have invested £2.6 million into the garden to preserve the green and tranquil space. The garden's traditional design has been kept, with a few new additions:

  • two new entrance gates in the south-west and northeast corners
  • curved footpaths linking the new entrances
  • a reflective pool in the south-west corner of the garden
  • a small café pavilion

Melville's make-over
Maintenance of the Melville Monument, which towers an impressive 41 feet above the garden, has also been carried out. Edinburgh World Heritage Trust have contributed to the repairs in addition to funding from the Council and Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian.

Shedding new light
To complement the new design of the garden, subtle lighting illuminates the garden’s paths. Uplighters have also been placed around the trees and Melville Monument.
