Edinburgh's climate

Edinburgh’s climate is not known for its long sultry summers, however, it rarely has extremes of weather throughout the year (daytime temperatures rarely fall below 0C). The weather in Edinburgh is that of a temperate maritime climate. As in the rest of the UK, Edinburgh experiences an island’s changeability of weather. It is therefore best to bring waterproofs and some warm clothing if you are visiting the city, just in case.

Edinburgh is a windy city due to its position between the sea and mountains, with a prevailing south-westerly wind. Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year.

Visit the BBC website for more information on the average weather in Edinburgh.
