Housing with the council and housing associations

Apply for social housing

Regeneration

EdIndex is a partnership between the Council and 20 Housing Associations / Co-operatives in Edinburgh. You can apply to EdIndex by filling in one application form to access available social housing in Edinburgh, including sheltered and amenity housing.

You can get an EdIndex form by:

After you return your form you will be sent an acknowledgement letter with your unique EdIndex reference number.  You will also get details about the two different systems the landlords use to let their properties.

Letting systems

Choice based letting- 17 of the EdIndex landlords use this system. You can bid weekly for social housing using EH-Your Key to Choice. Some of the EdIndex landlords also have mid market rent and shared ownership properties. When these are available they will also be advertised through EH Your Key to Choice.

You can read the Council's letting policy to find out more about how the Council lets its properties.

Group plus points system- 4 Housing Associations and Co-operatives let their properties by using the same pointing structure. They will contact you directly if you are being considered for one of their properties.

There is not enough social housing in Edinburgh for everyone who applies for it. If you are not considered in priority need for social housing you could be waiting many years before you are successful for a house. You may like to consider other housing options like renting from a private landlord or looking into affordable buying.
