City of Edinburgh Council

Psychological Services

We are a team of Health Professions Council registered educational psychologists who apply psychology to make a difference for children and young people in Edinburgh.

We do this in three ways:

  • At an individual level, by working with others to help resolve problems that arise in educational settings
  • At a school level, by helping schools and other settings develop effective policies and procedures
  • At an authority level, by providing training, research and contributing to policy development and strategic planning

We help teachers, parents and others to understand the difficulties that some children and young people face. We also offer advice on how to bring about change. This might include advice on:

  • How a learner could be supported in class or within school
  • Adaptations to the curriculum
  • Approaches to teaching, including any specialist programmes
  • Suitable learning materials
  • Any Additional Support Plan which might be needed, e.g. an Individualised Educational Programme or a Coordinated Support Plan
  • Possible future placements
