City of Edinburgh Council

Consultative Committee with Parents

CCwP - Overview

The Children & Families Consultative Committee with Parents (CCwP) provides an opportunity for elected members, parents, Head Teachers, Convener and Director of Children and Families, to debate and discuss issues and shape policy in Edinburgh. It was set up in 1996.

Remit

The CCwP is a consultative committee established by the Council to provide a forum for discussion and consultation with parents.  It cannot take decisions on behalf of the Council and its duties and responsibilities and prescribed by its 'parent' committee, the Education, Children and Families Committee.

While there is some flexibility regarding the operation of the committee, any changes which we wish to make to its structure and operation need to be agreed by the Education, Children and Families Committee.

Types of meetings

Meetings for CCwP members are held on a 6/7 weekly cycle at the City Chambers.  Meetings are held on a Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm - teas and coffees are available from 6.00pm onwards.

As well as the meetings at the City Chambers for CCwP members, there are three meetings per session at a designated secondary school to which all Parent Council Chairs are invited.  These meetings focus on a single issue of city-wide significance, such as the Revenue Budget, or issues of educational policy such as the Curriculum for Excellence.  These meetings are interactive and participatory, and also run from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
