City of Edinburgh Council

Major Incident Evacuation Plan

Introduction

There are arrangements in place to evacuate areas of Edinburgh if this is needed in an emergency.

These arrangements, which may involve a full or partial evacuation of a large area, can be applied to any part of Edinburgh but would only be used in the most exceptional circumstances.

The central area of Edinburgh would be particularly difficult to evacuate. To help the emergency services deal with an incident affecting this area, it has been divided up into a series of zones.

If you live or work in the city centre you can see these zones on our city centre map.
