Data Protection Act 1998
Make a Data Protection Request
As part of its everyday activities, the Council collects and uses personal information to help it provide effective services. The personal information we collect can relate to citizens, service users, employees and other individuals who come into contact with the Council. To ensure that we process and handle this information properly, the Council has to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998.
The Act also gives you the right to know and view what information we hold about you (with a few exceptions), and correct it if necessary. Requests for personal information are known as 'subject access requests' and can be made by contacting: The Data Protection Officer, email: InformationSecurity@edinburgh.gov.uk
Upon receipt of your request, you can expect to receive a response within 40 calendar days. You may be asked to pay a fee. We will let you know in advance if this is the case.
Compliance with the Act is the responsibility of the Council and this is regulated by the Information Commissioner.
