Access to care records

Requesting access to your records

If you were in care (or looked after, or boarded out) in Edinburgh as a child, you have the right to see information that was collected about you - your record.

You can do this by e-mailing CF.FOI@edinburgh.gov.uk or calling 0131 469 3324.

Alternatively you can complete this access request form which asks you to provide basic details about yourself, including:

  • your name and any names you might have been known under when you were in care
  • your contact details
  • your date of birth, which we need to carry out a proper records search
  • any details of your time in care, for example, the dates you were in care and, if you were in residential care, the names of any establishments you stayed in.

We require your signature so we need a written copy.

You should return the form to:

Children and Families Freedom of Information
Waverley Court, Level 3:1, 4 East Market Street, Edinburgh EH8 8BG

We will be in touch when we have received your form to let you know what happens next.
