Set up a Council tax account
Details required for a new Council tax account
You will need to set up a Council tax account and start paying Council tax if:
- you are new to Edinburgh/moving to Edinburgh
- you have taken over ownership or rental of a property within Edinburgh for the first time.
To set up an account please provide the following information.
If you own the property:
- the date the sale of the property was completed
- the previous owner's forwarding address, if known
- the exact dates for any period that the property was empty and furnished or empty and unfurnished
- the names of adults (over 18) who live in the property with you and their relationship to you.
If you are renting the property:
- the date that your tenancy agreement starts
- your landlord or managing agents name and address
- the exact dates for which the property was empty prior to your occupation
- the names of adults (over 18) who live in the property with you and their relationship to you.
If you have purchased a property which is remaining empty (you are not living in it and it is not rented out)
- the date the sale of the property was completed
- the exact date the property became empty
- if the property is furnished or unfurnished.
