Set up a Council tax account

Provide us with your details to set up a Council Tax account if, for example, you are new to Edinburgh or have taken over ownership or rental of a property within Edinburgh for the first time.

Ways to pay Council tax and Non-domestic rates

Choose the option which suits, for example, pay online or pay by direct debit.

Change in your address, circumstances or personal details

If you already have a Council tax account, let us know of any changes, for example, a change of address, change of name, change in who is living with you, a property becomes empty and unfurnished, you are leaving Edinburgh or any other change that may affect your entitlements.

Apply for a Council tax discount, exemption or band reduction

Discounts are available to a range of people including carers, single occupants, long term patients and students. Some properties may be eligible for an exemption from Council tax or a band reduction.

Apply for Council tax benefit or Housing benefit

If you have a low income you may be eligible for benefit to help pay your Council tax or rent.

Check your Council tax account online via 'Citizen's Account

If you have a Council tax account, register or log-in to the 'Citizen's Account' system to view your Council tax account details online. (The Citizen's Account system provides financial details of Council Tax, Non-Domesitc Rates and Benefits accounts only. The system has a different registration process from registering with the Council website). If you are having problems with this system, please contact revenuesbenefits.systems@edinburgh.gov.uk.
