Customer Service Excellence
Customer Service Excellence (CSE) is the National standard for customer focused Service delivery. It is a practical tool for driving forward a customer centred culture. Once a service has been accredited with the standard they are regularly reviewed and re-assessed to ensure that further improvements are made and developed. Approximately 40% of council services have now been accredited under Customer Service Excellence. The Council aims to have 60% of services accredited by the end of 2012.
Assessors from Customer Service Excellence have described services within the City of Edinburgh Council as transformational, impressive and committed to putting the customer at the heart of service delivery.
Services within the City of Edinburgh Council have been successful in retaining Customer Services Excellence (CSE) accreditation for 2011/12.
The national standard for customer service has been awarded to the Council's Customer Contact Centre, Services for Communities (most recently the Planning & Building Standards Service in March 2012) and services previously in Finance following successful assessments in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
A Council-wide programme has been rolled out to ensure we meet the 60% accreditation target for 2012 and includes services for Children, Families and Social Care.
Business Continuity Management
The City of Edinburgh Council is the first urban local authority in the UK to gain a quality standard for emergency preparation. The 'business continuity management' accreditation, awarded by the British Standards Institute, recognises the Council's efforts to ensure it can continue to maintain critical services if it is affected by an incident or emergency.
Earlier this year, the Council underwent a rigorous audit of the continuity processes and resources it has in place to keep essential services running. This audit followed two years of intensive work to prepare the organisation for threats to its business continuity. More information on the standard (BS2599) is available from the British Standards Institute. The Council also urges other organisations to follow business continuity advice to ensure that they have their own plans in place.
Investors in People
The City of Edinburgh Council has been recognised with a Gold Investors in People (IiP) award, Scotland 's only local authority to gain this status.
Only 3% of companies in the country who have an IiP award have reached the gold level, demonstrating what an outstanding achievement this is for the Council, particularly during these challenging times.
Find more information on IiP at the Investors in People website.
