Summary of department responsibilities

Chief Executive (Sue Bruce)

Children and Families delivers a range of services including schools and community education, youth justice and social work services for children and their families.

City Development is responsible for a range of services that aim to ensure Edinburgh has a strong sustainable economy and is seen as a prosperous place in which to live, work and study or visit.

Corporate Governance is responsible for collecting money including Council Tax, paying housing related benefits, Lothian Pension Fund, administration of accounts, legal services, licensing, registration services, culture and sport and internal services for other parts of the Council.

Health and Social Care provides a range of services including care for people in their own homes and residential care, 24 hour emergency service for people in need of help, advice and assistance on welfare rights and criminal justice services.

Services for Communities has a clear focus on services that make a difference to your day-to-day life - improving the home in which you live, tackling antisocial behaviour, keeping your streets clean and safe and improving recycling facilities in your area.
