Throughcare and aftercare

We have a variety of specialist services available to young people leaving care through a 'one stop shop' approach.

What we offer

The Throughcare and Aftercare (TcAc) Service undertakes one to one work and group work. We have a 'Drop In' on a Tuesday afternoon, along with a 'Healthy Respect Drop In' and the office is a C Card outlet (System for providing free condoms to young people)   

TcAc has a Monday to Friday office duty system, providing advice to young people, their carers, colleagues and partner agencies during office hours.

 

There are lots of other things that we can help you with, but because everyone is an individual, we can't tell you here exactly what help we can give you.  Here are some of the things we can help you with:

• Maintenance and rent money (if you were in residential care and were still looked after at your school leaving date and are under age 18)
• Help with your fuel payments in the winter, if you are under 19 and in your own flat
• Help with furnishing your flat
• Help with travel costs
• Advice about applying for benefits from Job Centre Plus
• Help to find a job or to apply for courses
• Help with the costs of being in training or at college
• Help with buying a winter coat, maternity clothing or 'smart' clothes for a job or an interview
• Help to apply for suitable accommodation and easy links with the young people's housing advice workers at Cockburn Street
• Emotional support and help with family relationships
• Support to get help with alcohol, drug and other health problems
• C-card service (System for providing free condoms to young people)
