Come and join 65 organisations and sign up to the Pledge!
Why a Pledge?
During 2008, over 19,000 residents were consulted by the Council. In addition organisations, partnerships, clubs and groups were also asked to look at ways to increase access to culture and sport. The findings from this exercise have allowed us to see not only what is available (a lot!) in the City but more importantly areas that can be improved upon. There was overwhelming support to bring these areas of work under a pledge that organisations could sign up to, showing a commitment to tackling issues together.
What is the Pledge?
The Pledge is for any organisation that provides arts or sport services in Edinburgh. This includes public, voluntary and commercial organisations, partnerships, agencies, companies, clubs and groups. The Pledge provides a framework for organisations to set out activities to improve the impact of their work on access to and participation in these sectors.
By signing the Pledge, organisations will make a strong and lasting shared commitment to work together to continue to break down barriers. The Pledge states:
"We Pledge to improve the quality of life and life chances for all people in Edinburgh through increased access to cultural and sporting activities by:
- Developing and promoting joint working
- Improving access to facilities
- Improving the quality and dissemination of information
- Promoting participation
- Increasing affordability
- Creating sustainable provision
- Responding to users' views and needs"
