City of Edinburgh Council

Scams and doorstep crime

No Cold Calling zones (NCCZs)

Trading Standards

A NCCZ is an area in which a majority of residents have stated that they do not wish traders to call at their homes without being invited.

Trading Standards sets up zones in Edinburgh, in partnership with Lothian & Borders Police, Neighbourhood Teams, the Sheltered Housing team and local residents.

The zones are designed to:

  • Reduce instances of doorstep crime, bogus workmen and distraction burglaries
  • Deter 'cold callers'
  • Educate residents and empower them to refuse cold callers

There are currently 37 zones throughout the city (15 of which cover sheltered housing), protecting approximately 4,300 homes.

Further zones are under development/consideration. These will bring the total number up to 53, protecting over 8,100 homes.

If you want to find out more about setting up a new zone, or require further information about existing zones, contact us.
