City of Edinburgh Council

21st Century Homes for Edinburgh

New Homes for Leith Fort

The Development Management Sub Committee granted Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for the Leith Fort development on Wednesday 17 April 2013.  The application is for 94 new affordable homes, with 32 for social rent and 62 for mid market rent.

Prior to the submission of the planning application, public consultation on the designs for the site took place in March 2012.  Over 70 people visited the display in Leith Library which showed early proposals for the new development.  The architects, along with Council and Port of Leith Housing Association staff, were available throughout the week to answer questions.  Thank you very much to all who attended and left comments.

Archaeological investigations have taken place on the site and further work will take place after the demolition.

The Council submitted a successful bid for funding to the Scottish Government's Innovation and Investment Fund and secured funding to build housing for social rent on part of the site. Port of Leith Housing Association (PoLHA) also submitted a successful bid to build housing for mid market rent on the site.

A copy of the latest newsletter and the results of the consultation are available on the Neighbourhood Partnership webpage.
