The development and delivery of affordable housing in Edinburgh is managed by the Council. Development projects are funded by public and private money that enables the Council and its housing association partners to deliver a variety of affordable homes in the city.
Most new housing association homes are funded through the Affordable Housing Supply Programme. This is funding from the Scottish Government that is set aside for housing associations and local authorities to build new homes for rent and sale to people in housing need.
The Council is also building new homes for affordable rent, mid market rent and low cost ownership in across the city through the 21st Century Homes programme and will deliver the first Council houses built in the city for a generation.
The Council is also working with the Scottish Government and Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) to procure up to 600 affordable homes from private house builders through the National Housing Trust initiative (NHT).
