Local air quality management
Screening air quality
To meet national standards, we screen, assess and manage local air quality. We screen levels of air pollution. If needed, we make a detailed assessment for any pollutant that might go above prescribed levels. We may even declare an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA).
Reports on our progress are all published and contain data on air quality that we have measured. View data on the Air Quality in Scotland website.
Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is measured across the city on a monthly basis using Passive Diffusion Tubes (PDT). This data is published as it becomes available. It is provided in raw form and is used to determine yearly NO2 concentrations.
Raw data should not be compared directly with air quality standards. It should also not be used to infer anything about monthly levels at each site.
At this time we have six AQMAs maps. We have a plan to reduce the level of pollutants in AQMAs.
