Christmas tree recycling
How to recycle your Christmas tree
We'll collect your real Christmas tree and recycle it into compost.
To enable trees to be recycled, residents are reminded
- if your tree is 6ft tall or higher, please cut it in half and remove its base first
- to remove all decorations from the Christmas tree
- to remove stands from trees
- not to place trees in plastic bags, as this means we cannot recycle them.
If you have a brown bin you can recycle your Christmas tree by placing it on the kerbside on your scheduled brown bin day by 6am.
Even if you don't have a brown bin, there may still be a brown bin service available on your street. Check if your street has a brown bin service and put your tree out on the next brown bin day.
We are aiming to collect Christmas trees from the City Centre (Ward 11) from 5 January. Please present your tree as soon as possible, on the kerbside - please do not leave trees in bin stores, or in bins.
Christmas tree recycling in communal areas
Some properties may be in a brown bin area even if you use communal bins for your other waste, so if your address isn’t on the list below, you should put your tree out on the next brown bin collection day.
If you don't have a brown bin service on your street and you live in a communal bin area, we will still collect your Christmas trees for recycling. Check the dates below for when we are collecting Christmas trees in your area.
Please leave them on the pavement outside your property on one of the days listed in the download.
You can also take Christmas trees to any of the Community Recycling Centres. The sites are open as usual from 3 January.
