Assisted Travel Policy
Health and Social Care can arrange transport to and from services for you if no other option is available.
If you are able to make your own way to services, we encourage you to do so.
Ways you can travel to services include:
- walking, either on your own or with the support of a carer
- assisted mobility such as motorised scooters
- public transport, either on your own or with the support of a carer
- using a car, either provided by Motability or paid for privately.
If none of these options are possible, we will do an assessment to see if you meet our transport eligibility criteria.
If you do, then we will arrange transport for you. You may have to pay towards part of the cost of the journeys. If we organise transport on your behalf, it could be one of our own vehicles or a vehicle arranged for you, such as a taxi or Community Transport provider.
We will fund transport for you to get to the appropriate service that is closest to your home.
It is possible for you to be eligible for care and support services but not have transport provided or funded to get there.
The Assisted Travel Policy has been created to ensure fair access to transport. A link to the Assisted Travel Policy can be found below.
