Developing the arts in Edinburgh
Arts Development work with the city's cultural sector to ensure that the arts play a vital and lasting role in Edinburgh.
We develop strategic policy, award cultural grants as well as offer advice on cultural projects.
Visual Artists and Craft Makers awards
The Visual Artists and Craft Makers award scheme aims to support Edinburgh-based visual arts and craft practitioners through grants towards the development of their practice through new work and research.
Awards of between £500 and £1500 are available.
Emerging Artists Bursary scheme
The bursary programme will support up to 2 successful applicants to develop and progress their creative practice over 12 months.
The programme will be tailored to the individual artist / craft maker and will include mentoring which may lead to the development of
- skills / training
- creation of new work
- marketing work.
The successful applicant will be awarded £1,500 as a bursary.
There are two application deadlines for both schemes at 5pm on Tuesday
- 2 October 2018
- 5 February 2019.

Culture project fund - Promoting access
The Council has partnered with The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to stimulate and support artistic and cultural projects that benefit Edinburgh and those who live in and visit the city.
The aim of this fund in 2018/19 is to support artist-led projects in Edinburgh, that extend the reach of arts and cultural engagement and help overcome barriers to access, whether
We invite proposals for new ways of working and projects can take various forms, including
- participatory activity and workshops
- exhibitions or performances in new spaces across the city
- collaborative projects between artists and communities
- any other activity which demonstrably meets the purpose of the scheme.
The fund will award grants of up to £5,000 (£10,000 in exceptional circumstances) to organisations undertaking activity in Edinburgh.
