Construction updates

Clark Contracts have been awarded the contract to carry out the building of the new café, renovation of the historic Stables Block and associated works at Saughton Park. They will their site set up in February 2018. This construction programme will run for 36 weeks, until November 2018.

P1 Solutions are the contractors who have been awarded to carry out the landscape and associated works at Saughton Park.

They began their site set up on 31 July 2017 and construction works have begun. The construction programme will run for 52 weeks, until the start of July 2018. Many areas of the park are now closed for construction. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming you back in 2018.

Closure updates

Gorgie Road, exhibition road entrance and the area south of the Walled Gardens is closed to allow major pathway construction and other works to the south of the park.

Balgreen Road entrance and car park are closed to allow works in this area.

Ford Road entrance and car park are still open but the car park will close soon.

Stevenson Drive entrance is still open.

Main east-west path Water of Leith walkway and John Muir Way are closed to allow major works to the path, including new surfacing and lighting. Diversions have been put in place for pedestrians and cyclists via Stevenson Drive and Balgreen Road.

Walled Garden and Winter Garden are open until Friday 18 August 2017 and will close afterwards to allow works to commence in this area. This means there will be no access after that date to the public toilets. Access is only possible from the west of the main east-west path from the Fords Road entrance.

The playground is open until the end of 2017. Access is only possible through the skatepark from a temporary entrance and path near the Balgreen Road entrance. There is no direct access from the Fords Road entrance.

The skatepark is due to remain open throughout construction.

The three football pitches to the north of the skatepark and playground will remain accessible for players only throughout construction. Public access is limited while works take place on the paths and trees. 

The former parks depot area is closed to allow work to be carried out.

Building works contract

The building works contract to build the new cafe and toilets and refurbish the stables and surrounding courtyard is not due to commence until the start of November. We are still in the process of tendering for contractors and we will provide updates once a contractor has been appointed.
