How to volunteer

If you would like to volunteer at your local library, contact the library to find out how you can do so. You might also be interested in these four schemes.

Home Delivery Service

Royal Voluntary Service volunteers operate a home delivery service for people who are housebound or unable to travel to their local library.

IT Volunteers

IT Volunteers help mainly elderly beginners find their computing feet, usually through a series of hour long one-to-one sessions in libraries.

To be an IT Volunteer you need sound computer knowledge, excellent communication skills, patience, sensitivity and a sense of humour.

Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Volunteers

Do you want to give your time to support people affected by cancer? We are looking for caring individuals who have a few hours a week to volunteer supporting people affected by cancer. 

We run drop in services in selected libraries across Edinburgh. As days and times vary there will hopefully be something to suit you! 

Full training is given and expenses are payable. To find out more contact macmillan.libraries@edinburgh.gov.uk .

"Read Aloud"

"Read Aloud" volunteers read poems, sing and chat to care home residents on a monthly basis.

You will be asked to complete a PVG form and provide two references. We would like volunteers who can commit to monthly sessions for at least six months. To find out more contact eclis@edinburgh.gov.uk.
