Introduce a living wage for Council employees, encourage its adoption by Council subsidiaries and contractors and its wider development
We brought in the Edinburgh Living Wage (ELW) on 1 January 2013 at £7.50 per hour. This increased to £7.65 per hour on 1 April 2014.
We have been working with Edinburgh Leisure and the Festival City Theatres Trust as well. Both have committed to follow or policy on the living wage as much as possible. This is shown in the new services and funding agreements for both organisations.
We are also looking at the living wage and procurement. We could encourage our subsidiaries and contracts to commit to the living wage as part of the procurement process.
