Sustainable Edinburgh 2020

The framework for sustainable development

Sustainable Edinburgh 2020 (SE2020) is the Council's Framework for the sustainable development of the city until 2020.

Our vision is that

"Edinburgh in 2020 will be a low carbon, resource efficient city, delivering a resilient local economy and vibrant flourishing communities in a rich natural setting."

The Framework is based on the ten Aalborg Commitments.

Action plan and progress report

The Sustainable Edinburgh 2020 Action Plan 2012-14 was approved in March 2012.

The first annual progress report shows our progress so far in achieving the aims of Sustainable Edinburgh 2020 and highlights broader cross Council work in relation to sustainability.

Sustainable Development Partnership

The Edinburgh Sustainable Development Partnership (ESDP) was formed in February 2013. The aim of the Partnership, comprising key stakeholders across the city, is to coordinate action to ensure the sustainable development of the city. Meetings are held quarterly.

The Partnership is a cross cutting partnership of the Edinburgh Partnership.

A presentation of the draft Edinburgh Local Development Plan was given at a special meeting of the Partnership concerned with planning policy in the city.
