Building Standards news

Site inspection changes

Between July and September, we will be doing site inspections in a different way. This is to address the workload during this busy time of year and reduce our backlog of applications.

The key change is that the case officer will not carry out the site inspection during this time. This will be done by a dedicated officer.

You must still contact the case officer who will book a date and time between 9am and 3pm for the site inspection. We will contact you nearer the time of the visit to confirm an exact time.

Provide contact details and have paperwork ready before the visit. This includes the completion certificate as well as construction certificates for electrical installations etc.

Please note that this is a temporary process and you must still fulfil the obligations set out in the plan.

Application reporting changes

Instead of a surveyor assessing your application from start to finish, in some instances, a new surveyor will deal with a case. This new way of working will help reduce our backlog and get reports issued quicker.

New computer system

We are planning a major upgrade of our software and hardware to speed up our processes. The upgrade will be undertaken between 1-7 November and will result in a period of downtime for the planning and building standards portal.

Paperless processing

We are working towards paperless applications. This means that we will no longer need paper plans before we grant building warrants for applications that have been submitted online. We will update this webpage with timescales for this change.
