Health and safety at work

Health and safety law and inspections

We enforce health and safety law in premises such as

  • shops
  • hotels
  • offices
  • restaurants
  • private nurseries
  • pubs and clubs.

This is to make sure they are safe for both their employees and anyone else on the premises including customers.

The Health and Safety Executive enforces health and safety in other types of premises including

  • factories
  • building sites
  • government buildings and hospitals.

We carry out regular inspections of the businesses we are responsible for. We also investigate accidents and health and safety complaints.

Please contact us if you would like advice on health and safety matters or if you have concerns about a premises that we enforce health and safety in.

Their Health and Safety toolbox lets you look for information on specific health and safety issues.
