George IV Bridge - Kings Buildings on-road cycle route

On-road cycle route

In 2012, we upgraded the 3km route.  The route allows you to cycle between Kings Buildings, to the Meadows, and then to George IV Bridge and then to the shops on Princes Street.

The route is popular with both students and commuters.

On the route, there are now

  • new or enhanced bus and cycle lanes
  • changes to the parking and loading restrictions
  • route signage.

These measures aim to make the route safer and more pleasant for cycling.  On all of our routes, we are also aiming to keep buses moving, and meet the parking and loading needs of local businesses.

You can find out more about the network of QuietRoutes at the Explore QuietRoutes section of our site and download cycle and walking route maps for free.

This project was carried out in partnership with Sustrans and the University of Edinburgh.
